Hi, my name is Madeleine, and I’m not your average therapist.

Many therapists are out of touch with the unique challenges of the modern 20-something. I know what it’s like to navigate life in New York as a young professional in today’s world. I’ve done it. I’m still doing it. I know how it feels to:

  • struggle with work-life balance in a demanding job

  • get ghosted by your situationship

  • set boundaries with a challenging roommate

  • compare your unfiltered self to flawless images on Instagram

  • navigate changing friend and family dynamics as everyone’s lives evolve on different timelines

  • stress about finances in a crazy-expensive city

I’m in the trenches with you - and have the clinical skills and wisdom to help you manage it all.

People that meet me are often surprised when I tell them I’m a therapist - I don’t necessarily match the image in their head. I became a therapist at a young age, and I’ve always looked younger than I am. I’m on top of all the latest TikTok trends, Revolve drops, Bravo shows, and new restaurant openings. But who said therapy can’t be trendy?

In today’s fast-paced, always-connected world, therapy is transforming. It doesn’t have to be dull. Therapy can be relatable. It can feel like FaceTiming a friend. I talk to my own therapist from my phone, in my pajamas, snuggling on the couch with my dog. Modern therapy can and should fit your modern lifestyle.

While I’m skilled in traditional therapeutic modalities like cognitive-behaivioral (CBT) and psychodynamic psychotherapy, the “blank slate” days are over. I’m not the kind of therapist that just listens, nods, and asks how that makes you feel. Instead, I share unique insights and challenge you to confront difficult truths. I help you explore not just the surface-level challenges, but the deeper emotions underlying them. I show up as my full, authentic, human self and simply ask that you do the same. Together, our relationship serves as the container to process your experiences, deepen your awareness, and unlock your highest potential.

ABOUT MADELEINE

Madeleine Blaine Phelan is a New York City-based modern psychotherapist with a focus on life transitions, dating & relationships, anxiety, grief, and self-esteem . She holds an LMSW from New York University and a B.S. in Human & Organizational Development from Vanderbilt University. Before becoming a therapist, Madeleine worked in management consulting and co-founded a dating coaching company. She is currently in private practice at Madison Square Psychotherapy under the supervision of Kristin Anderson, LCSW.
